
RAJSHAHI, March 13, 2026 (BSS)- Two child marriage survivors were given
livelihood support to make sure their normal life through enriching them with
institutional learning side by side with imparting with technical and
vocational training.
Sachetan Society as part of implementation of its 'Fight slavery trafficking
in persons (FSTIP)' project provided the support, consisting of Singer
electric sewing machines, supported by the United States Department of state
(USDOS) and Winrock International.
The support-giving event was held at the head office of Sachetan Society in
the city today.
Executive Director Hasinul Islam, Unit Coordinator of Bangladesh Legal Aid
and Services Trust (BLAST) Advocate Samina Begum and the Sachetan Society
FSTIP Project Manager Mahmud Un Nabi were present on the occasion.
To make the survivors financially self-dependent and integration in their
community or family with respect and dignity were the main objective of the
initiative.
Talking to BSS on the issue, Mahmud Un Nabi said survivor Asmaul Husna, 21,
is now a first-year honors student in Philosophy at Varendra College under
National University (NU) after getting free from her child marriage at the
age of 15.
Earlier, she was given financial support worth Taka 20,000 for her HSC
education. Sachetan Society identified her as a child marriage victim and
enrolled in the FSTIP programme.
After the HSC examination, Sachetan Society referred her to the Women
Technical Training Centre (TTC) for vocational training on the Block
Boutique.
After completing the Block Boutique training she was referred again for the
tailoring trade.
Simultaneously, survivor Sumaiya Khatun Shimla, 20, is now a first-year
honors student in History at Rajshahi Government Women's College under the
NU.
She was also freed from her child marriage at the age of 16 and has already
received life skill training with support from Winrock International.
Nabi said they will ultimately turn her into worthy citizens and to
contribute to the society immensely.
