KHULNA, June 3, 2026 (BSS) - One passenger was killed and at least seven others were injured when a speeding bus lost control and plunged into a roadside pond in Dumuria upazila of the district this morning. 

The accident occurred around 9:30 am in front of PCF Feed Industries at Gutudia area of the upazila.

The deceased was identified as Saidur Rahman Saeed, 25, son of Asabur Sardar of Paikgacha upazila.

Confirming the incident, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Dumuria Police Station Khandaker Hafizur Rahman Hafiz said the bus was travelling from Paikgacha to Khulna carrying passengers when the driver lost control, causing the vehicle to veer off the road and fall into a pond. 

Local residents said firefighters rushed to the scene after receiving information and launched a rescue operation. One passenger died in the accident while seven to eight others sustained injuries.

The injured were admitted to Dumuria Upazila Health Complex for treatment, police said.

An investigation into the incident is underway.
