Spain beat Uruguay 1-0 to clinch World Cup Group H top spot

GUADALAJARA, Mexico, June 27, 2026 (BSS/AFP) - Spain defeated Uruguay 1-0 to clinch first place in World Cup Group H on Friday as the South Americans crashed out of the tournament.

Alex Baena's 42nd-minute strike settled an attritional battle in Spain's favour in Guadalajara that condemned the Uruguayans to an early exit.
