Bagerhat meeting urges public action to combat dengue surge

BAGERHAT, June 3, 2026 (BSS) - A discussion meeting was held at Badhal Bazar in Kachua upazila this afternoon to boost public awareness and strengthen preventative measures against dengue. 

The theme of the event was "Build a dengue-free country, let's all be aware."

Kachua Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mohammad Ali Hasan chaired the event. 

Addressing the programme as the chief guest, Bagerhat Deputy Commissioner (DC) Golam Md. Baten said rigorous cleanliness is the primary defense against the disease. 

"There is no alternative to keeping our houses and courtyards clean to prevent dengue," he said, adding, "Awareness can protect us from this danger. Alongside government initiatives, every citizen must play a responsible role."

Organized by the Kachua Upazila administration, the meeting focused on practical preventative strategies, including eliminating Aedes mosquito breeding sites, clearing stagnant water and ensuring prompt medical attention for infected individuals. Speakers urged the public to follow government health guidelines and called for regular awareness campaigns.

Special guests included Morelganj UNO Habibullah, Kachua Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr. Hasan Mahmud, and Kachua Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Shafiqul Islam. Upazila BNP General Secretary SM Touhidul Islam, along with members of the Badhal Bazar Merchants' Association and local traders, also attended the event.
