RAB arrests 2 brothers from Dhaka for killing man with poisoned wine

RANGPUR, June 8, 2026 (BSS) – Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested two brothers from the Niribili area under Ashulia police station in Dhaka on Sunday evening in connection with the murder of a Rangpur man by consuming poisoned alcohol.

 The detainees are Rafiqul Islam, 45, and Md Shafiqul Islam, 40, sons of Soleman Mia of village Khordo Komarpur under Mithapukur police station of Rangpur, said a press release issued by RAB-13’s Senior Assistant Director (Media) and Additional Superintendent of Police Biplab Kumar Goswami.

 Citing the statement of the murder case filed by victim’s maternal uncle Zahidul Islam, the release said that an enmity arose with the victim of the same area over the sale of illegal drugs by the arrested accused. 

 In continuation of this, arrested accused Md Rafiqul Islam tactfully took the victim and his three friends to his fruit garden and made them drink excessive amounts of poisoned liquor at 11.30pm on May 30, 2026.

 Later, victim Md Saju Mia, 55, and others became seriously ill when Zahidul Islam admitted the victim to Rangpur Medical College Hospital. 

 On June 1, 2026, victim Md Saju Mia died at the said hospital at 2.10 pm. 

 In this incident, the victim’s three friends also died at different times. 

 Later, Zahidul Islam filed a murder case against the accused at Mithapukur police station in this incident on June 2, 2026.
 
On a tip off, a joint team of RAB-13 from Rangpur and RAB-04 from Savar in Dhaka conducted a raid in the Niribili area under Ashulia police station and arrested the two fugitive main accused from there at 6.15 pm on Sunday.

 The arrestees have been handed over to Mithapukur police station for further legal action, the release added.
