Navy detains 21 smugglers, seizes 2 Myanmar-bound boats

CHATTOGRAM, June 27, 2026 (BSS) - Bangladesh Navy detained 21 alleged smugglers and seized two fishing boats carrying 1,450 sacks of cement while 
being smuggled to Myanmar during separate operations in the Bay of Bengal.

Acting on a tip-off, a ship of Bangladesh Navy on patrol conducted two separate drives early Friday about 13 nautical miles off St Martin's Island, 
according to an Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) press release issued here this evening.

During the drives, the Navy intercepted two engine-driven wooden fishing boats-- 'FB Fatema Hosna' and 'FB Nizhu Rabbi'-- which were allegedly transporting cement to Myanmar.

As many as 650 sacks of Diamond Cement and 10 alleged smugglers were arrested from 'FB Fatema Hosna' while 800 sacks of Diamond Cement and 11 alleged smugglers were detained from 'FB Nizhu Rabbi', the ISPR added.

Necessary legal procedures are underway in this connection.
