DHAKA, June 27, 2026 (BSS) - Prime Minister's Information and Broadcasting Adviser Dr Zahed Ur Rahman today said the Bangladesh Cinema and Television Institute (BCTI), under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, is playing a vital role in producing skilled filmmakers and content creators.
He made the remarks as the chief guest at the certificate awarding and closing ceremony of the "6th Documentary Filmmaking Course" and the "1st Television Programme and Multi-platform Content Production Course", held at the BCTI premises in the capital.
Handing over certificates to the trainees, Dr Zahed hoped that the young people trained at the institute would take the country's film and television industries and digital content to new heights on the international stage in the coming days.
He praised BCTI's activities in developing skilled human resources for the country's film and mass media industry.
Speaking as the special guest, Prime Minister's Speechwriter Mahfuzur Rahman said there is no alternative to training for producing quality, creative and responsible content.
He expressed hope that the trainees, through their acquired knowledge and skills, would further enhance the country's positive image at home and abroad.
BCTI Chief Executive Abul Kalam Mohammad Shamsuddin said the institute is working to develop itself into an international-standard institution, modeled after the Busan Film Institute of South Korea and the Pune Film Institute of India.
He said a project to construct a permanent campus for the institute is currently in process. Once implemented, it will enable BCTI to become a more modern and effective training centre.
Bangladesh Film Certification Board Vice-Chairman S M Abdur Rahman, Bangladesh Journalist Welfare Trust Managing Director Mohammad Abdul Basir, film editor Syed Fazle Haque, July Shaheed Smrity Foundation Chief Executive Lt. Col. (Retd) Kamal Akbar, National Institute of Mass Communication (NIMC) Director General Muhammad Hiruzzaman and Principal Information Officer Syed Abdal Ahmed also addressed the programme, among others.
Humayun Kabir Himu and Labib Najmus Sakib spoke as mentors of the courses.
Two documentaries titled "Minoti" and "Matir Sur", produced by trainees of the 6th Documentary Filmmaking Course, were screened at the programme.
The trainees also shared their experiences of their creative journey.
Prof Dr Shah Nister Kabir, Chairperson of the Department of Film and Television at Jagannath University, delivered the vote of thanks at the concluding session.
A special exhibition showcasing BCTI's various activities and achievements was organised after the programme.
