Budget to encourage hassle free local, foreign investments: MPs

SANGSAD BHABAN, June 27, 2026 (BSS) – Lawmakers today said the proposed budget for fiscal year 2026-27 (FY27) has introduced one stop service to encourage hassle-free local and foreign investments in the country.

The proposed budget has introduced one stop service to reduce unnecessary delays for boosting local and foreign investments in the country, they said while taking part in the general discussion on the national budget for FY27 at the Jatiya Sangsad here.

Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury on June 11 unveiled a Taka 9.38 trillion national budget for FY 27, setting the GDP growth target at 6.5 percent aiming to rebound from the provisional 4.14 percent growth recorded in the outgoing fiscal year.

To reduce bureaucratic red tape, the proposed budget has given importance on developing investment friendly environment aiming to attract local and foreign investments, said State Minister for Public Administration Abdul Bari.

Reforms in financial sector, development of banking system, food security and long-term energy conservation policy and employment have been given emphasis in the proposed budget, he added.

To reinforce the rural economy, the state minister said the family card, farmer card, health card and allowances for the religious organizations chiefs also have been included in the budget.

The strengthening of the rural economy will help to reduce the inflation so that people get relief as soon as possible, he told parliament.

To establish accountability, the government is giving importance on the honesty and efficiency in sphere, he said, adding that the administrative system which was destroyed in the last 17 years is being developed in phases.

Regarding the allocation of Taka 3,16,000 crore under the Annual Development Programme (ADP), Bari said the prime minister is fully aware about the expenditure of the money and strong monitor has been intensified so that a single penny is not wasted.

Highlighting the budget, State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Yasser Khan Chowdhury from Mymensingh-9 said the budget will help develop the country economically. 

The fascist regime has destroyed all the sectors of the country and the proposed budget will help to revitalize these sectors, said the state minister.

Taking part in the discussion, State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives (LGRD) Mir Shahe Alam said budget has reduced tax on different drug raw materials which will reduce the price of various live saving drugs.

State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Aninda Islam Amit said the finance minister has allocated Taka 17,345 crore for the energy sector and it [allocation] will help to make the energy sector self-sufficient.

State Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Shaikh Faridul Islam said the budget has allocated Taka 51,000croe for combating the climate change affect as the allocation is 25 percent more than the previous budgetary outlays.

Even the budget has also focused on the flood and disaster prone people as they can rebuild their lives, he said.

State Minister for Housing and Public Works Ahammad Sohel Manjur said the budget will take Bangladesh’s economy from stagnation to dynamism.

State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Sultan Salahuddin Tuku said the budget will help to reduce inflation, expedite economic growth and investments.

Praising the BNP government, Altaf Hossain Chowdhury from Patuakhali-1 said the BNP government has given huge allocation under social safety net which was the highest in the last 54 years.

Discussing about budget deficit, ruling party lawmaker Barrister Mohammad Nawshad Zamir from Panchagarh-1 said the budget deficit is not a new thing but it is a normal issue as the U.S. federal budget deficit stands at $1.246 trillion through the first eight months of the fiscal year (ending May 2026).

Criticizing the proposed budget opposition Bangladesh Jamaat-e Islami lawmaker Shahjahan Chowdhury from Chattogram-15 said the budget is not people friendly but business friendly.

Quoting the finance minister’s post budget the press briefing, he said the finance minister said the proposed budget has been placed to easier the business environment.
The country is not only for the businessmen, but the country is also for the 18-crore people, he said.

Recalling former finance minister Saifur Rahman, Shahjahan Chowdhury also an executive committee member of the party, said the former finance minister called the opposition leader over phone for seeking cooperation before placing budget.

Even the ruling BNP also has chanted a slogan ‘Bangladesh First’ (Sabar Age Bangladesh) like the Jamaat-e Islami, but the proposed budget has no reflection of that slogan, he added. 

The opposition lawmaker said the proposed budget has raised allocation of 15 ministries but reduced the allocation for nine ministries including Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, Agriculture, Public Administration, Overseas Employment And Expatriate Welfare, Home,Environment, Forest and climate Change and the Ministry Of Industries.

Several ruling and opposition lawmakers were also participated in the budget discussion.
