DHAKA, June 27, 2026 (BSS) - State Minister for Land and Chattogram Hill Tracts Affairs Barrister Mir Mohammad Helal Uddin today said the current government would not allow corruption, irregularities, looting and neglect in the three hill districts, unlike the period before the 12 February 2026 election.
He said, "Under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, the government will continue to work with the highest priority on improving the living standards and infrastructure development of the hill tracts region through the coordination of hill and plain communities, to build a prosperous Bangladesh."
The state minister made the remarks as the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony of the three-day 'Hill Fruit Fair 2026,' which began today at the Chattogram Hill Tracts Complex Auditorium on Bailey Road in the city, said a press release here.
The Ministry of Land and Chattogram Hill Tracts Affairs organized the event.
Mir Helal said that in the past, a total of 1,074 nominal or small projects were undertaken in the three hill districts under various names, which did not bring any tangible development. "In the future, the rate of approving and implementing such unnecessary schemes will be reduced, and real development will be ensured based on practical and research-based information," he added.
Promising radical changes in the education, health, and infrastructure sectors of the hill tracts region, State Minister Mir Helal said, "To ensure healthcare services at the union level for school-going female students, pregnant mothers, and the elderly, a specialized healthcare facility for women will be established in each upazila."
Regarding the development of a modern education system, he said e-learning systems are being introduced so that students from the hill tracts region can keep pace with the rest of the world.
