KHULNA, Aug 9, 2026 (BSS) - A van driver was killed when a pickup truck hit
his vehicle in the Teligati area of Khulna city this morning.
The deceased was identified as Bishay Mallo, 67, of Sonatala Ghat area under
Siddhipasha Union in Abhaynagar upazila of Jashore district.
The accident occurred around 8am on the Teligati Bypass Road near Kathmandu
Restaurant, police said.
Police arrested pickup driver Md Anisul Haque, 27, and a deliveryman Hridoy,
29, in connection with the accident.
The pickup, bearing registration number Dhaka Metro-A-113765, was also seized
from the spot.
According to local people, police said Mallo was heading towards Afil Gate
carrying fish from the Aranghata Bypass fish market. "At the meantime, a
pickup truck of RFL Company was travelling towards Morrelganj in Bagerhat
after loading goods from Pathar Bazar Depot," the sources said, adding that
both the vehicles collided head-on in the aforesaid area, leaving the van
driver dead on the spot.
Anisul is a resident of Kishoreganj upazila in Nilphamari district while
Hridoy hails from Shailkupa upazila of Jhenaidah district.
Sub-Inspector (SI) Sanjib Biswas, duty officer of Aranghata Police Station,
said the body was sent to the Khulna Medical College and Hospital morgue for
autopsy after completing the inquest.
"Preparations are underway to file a case in this connection," he added.
