KISHOREGANJ, Aug 9, 2026 (BSS) - Six restaurants in Bhairab of the district have been fined a total of Taka 2.75 lakh for storing and selling rotten, stale and artificially colored food.

The fines were imposed during a mobile court drive conducted at the Food Zone of Nadi Bangla Center Point on Baradia Road in Bhairab municipality on Sunday afternoon.

According to the mobile court authorities, inspectors found rotten and stale food from the previous day, mixed with artificial coloring, stored in the refrigerators of several restaurants during the raid.

The establishments were subsequently fined under the Food Safety Act for storing and selling food considered unsafe for public consumption.

Of the six restaurants, US Bangla Restaurant was fined Taka 25,000, while Ocean Bite, Chhoto Mama, Narsingdi Food Zone, Crespi and Narsingdi Kabab were each fined Taka 50,000.

Bhairab Executive Magistrate and Assistant Commissioner (Land) A.H.M. Azimul Haque said storing or selling food that poses a risk to public health would not be tolerated.

He added that such drives against establishments involved in unsafe food practices would continue.
