CHATTOGRAM, Aug 22, 2026 (BSS) - Captain AJM Rabiuzzaman, a port pilot, sustained injuries when a rope snapped as he was disembarking from the Liberian-flagged container ship 'Box Endeavour' at the outer anchorage of the port.

The incident took place on Friday as he was making his way from the port jetty to the outer anchorage and was descending the ladder to the pilot boat.

He incurred injuries to his right hand and back and was subsequently treated at the port hospital.

Following the incident, officials from the Port and Shipping Departments conducted an investigation at the scene from 9:30 am to 2:30 pm today.

The vessel was scheduled to depart from the outer anchorage to Port Kelang, Malaysia, but it did not receive clearance due to the accident.

While multiple sources have corroborated these details, no statement has been issued by representatives of the port or shipping agent.

It has been reported that the ladder intended for access to the ship's bridge was inadequately secured with a rope, and the right-hand rope broke during his descent, resulting in the pilot's fall.

This incident may have been attributed to the use of substandard or aged ropes and insufficient maintenance.
