SYLHET, Aug 22, 2026 (BSS) - Four people, including three members of the same family were killed and three others injured when a CNG-run auto-rickshaw collided head-on with an oil tanker on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway in Osmaninagar upazila of Sylhet today.
The accident occurred around 2:30pm in the Brahmanagram area of the upazila.
The deceased were identified as Niamat Ali, 35, son of late Gafur Mia of Shriramshi village in Jagannathpur upazila; his wife, Ajufa Begum, 30; their younger daughter, Ayesha Akhter, 6; and auto-rickshaw driver Lalon Mia, 23, son of Md Farid Mia of Sherpur Majherbari village in Osmaninagar.
Niamat's two children-son Yakub, 4, and daughter Maria, 10-were among the injured and are undergoing treatment at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital. Yakub is receiving treatment at the hospital's pediatric ward, while another injured passenger, Jawad Ehsan Shuvro, 30, is being treated in the ICU.
According to police, the CNG-run auto-rickshaw was travelling from Sherpur towards Sylhet when it collided head-on with the oil-laden tanker coming from the opposite direction. The impact crushed the auto-rickshaw.
Local residents rescued the injured passengers and driver and rushed them to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital. The attending doctors declared four of them dead upon arrival.
