Tanzanian opposition officials arrested en route to rally for detained leader: party

DAR ES SALAAM, April 24, 2025 (BSS/AFP) - Tanzanian police arrested at leeast two opposition officials on Thursday while they were on their way to a court hearing for leader Tundu Lissu, who is due to face a treason charge, the Chadema party said.

"Some of our party officials have been arrested," said Chadema spokeswoman Brenda Rupia, confirming to AFP that deputy chairperson John Heche and secretary general John Mnyika were among those detained by police in business capital Dar es Salaam.
