Guinea Bissau army says it thwarted 'subversion' attempt, several officers arrested

BISSAU, Oct 31, 2025 (BSS/AFP) - Guinea-Bissau's army announced Friday it had thwarted an "attempt to subvert the constitutional order" and arrested several senior military officers, during a press conference on the eve of the start of campaigning for general elections.

"This action aimed to disrupt the electoral process," said General Mamadu Ture, deputy chief of staff, without specifying the number of officers arrested or what actions they planned to take.
