Early count shows Ecuador voters poised to reject US military bases

QUITO, Nov 17, 2025 (BSS/AFP) - Ecuadoran voters on Sunday appeared set to reject the return of US military bases, according to official results, in what would be a damaging blow to Trump-friendly President Daniel Noboa.

With over half the votes counted, more than 60 percent of Ecuadorans had voted "no" to lifting a longstanding ban on foreign bases, according to early referendum results.
