Xi leaves Beijing for visit to North Korea: Chinese state media

BEIJING, June 8, 2026 (BSS/AFP) - Chinese President Xi Jinping left Beijing on Monday morning bound for North Korea, state news agency Xinhua reported, in what will be his first official visit to the country since 2019.

Xi, who will meet with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un during the two-day visit, is accompanied by his wife Peng Liyuan, foreign minister Wang Yi, and China's number five-ranked Communist Party official Cai Qi, Xinhua said.
