WASHINGTON, United States, June 22, 2026 (BSS/AFP) - US Secretary of State Marco Rubio congratulated Colombia's new hard-right president-elect Abelardo de la Espriella on Sunday, after the Trump-backed candidate won the election by a small margin.

"The Trump Administration looks forward to working closely with your incoming administration to advance regional security cooperation, end illegal immigration to the United States, and strengthen our economic ties," Rubio wrote in an X post.
