Police arrest 10 AL men in city

DHAKA, June 21, 2026 (BSS) - Police arrested 10 leaders and activists of the banned Awami League (AL) and its associate bodies from the College Gate area in the city this morning.

“We arrested them at around 8:30am while they were bringing out a sudden procession in the College Gate area,” Officer-in-Charge of Mohammadpur Police Station Kazi Rafique Ahmed told BSS here today.

The arrested are Sajeeb Sardar, Md Nazir Hossain, Md Kabir, Kalam Farazi, Ali Raj Hossain, Md Kabir Hossain, Md Swapan, Md Siraj, Helal Hossain and Asad Uddin.

According to Mohammadpur police, when leaders and activists of the banned Awami League and its affiliates brought out a procession in the College Gate area, police on duty chased and arrested them.

Meanwhile, law enforcement agencies, including police, are on high alert across the country over fears of possible sabotage surrounding the founding anniversary of the Awami League.

Based on intelligence information, the Police Headquarters issued a special alert across the country.

The Police Headquarters instructed police stations nationwide to remain on high alert to prevent possible sabotage and deterioration of the law and order situation.

At the same time, checkpoints, regular patrols and special operations are being conducted at various important locations across the country, including the capital.
