BGB arrests two smugglers with 31 gold bars in Jashore

DHAKA, June 20, 2026 (BSS) - The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) today arrested two alleged gold smugglers with 31 gold bars worth about Tk 71.4 crore during a special drive on the Jashore-Narail highway.

"A special patrol team of Jashore Battalion (49 BGB) conducted the operation at around 2 am in the Gate No. 1 area of the highway. Acting on information, the patrol team stopped and searched a private car and recovered 31 gold bars, said a BGB press release.

The seized items include 31 gold bars weighing 3.641 kilograms, one private car, three mobile phones and cash amounting to Tk 4,815, the release said.

Legal procedures are underway to hand over the detainees to Jashore Kotwali Police Station after filing a case. Necessary formalities are also being completed with the relevant authorities, it added.
