DHAKA, Feb 05, 2026 (BSS) – Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami led 11-party alliance nominated candidate for Dhaka-2 constituency Col (Retd.) Mohammad Abdul Hoque has pledged to address key public concerns, including land grabbing and the deteriorating education system.

In an exclusive interview with staff reporter of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) Mohiuddin M. Mahi, he also made a commitment to empower expatriates and improve police-public relations.

During the interview, Hoque shared his thoughts and future plans with this correspondent to address these critical issues, if elected to the upcoming parliamentary polls slated for February 12.

Hoque’s first major promise was to combat land grabbing, a prevalent issue in Dhaka-02.

“Land grabbing is a major problem in Keraniganj area, especially for poor people who lose their land to powerful land grabbers. I will take strong action to halt these illegal activities and ensure that people’s property rights are protected,” Haque said.

He added, “The land mafia has been active for years, occupying and seizing land illegally…fake land deeds and illegal name transfers will be wiped out...I will work for a clear, efficient, and corruption-free system for land transactions, making sure the poor and vulnerable are protected from land grabbers.”

Hoque, also chairman of the Retired Armed Forces Officers' Welfare Association (RAOWA), also highlighted the importance of restoring faith in the local administration, particularly in the land office.

“Once the land office and other local institutions are cleansed of corruption, land disputes will significantly reduce, ensuring justice for the rightful owners. This will be my top priority,” he added.
Another key focus of Hoque’s campaign is the education system, a sector he considers crucial for the future of Dhaka-02.

“Despite being near the capital, the education standard in this area is very low. Politicians have deliberately kept the system underdeveloped to prevent the emergence of alternative leadership,” he noted.

“I will work to improve government schools and ensure quality education for all. My goal is aware of their civic responsibilities and prepare them for leadership roles in the future,” he said.

Hoque emphasized his firm stance on eliminating corruption and ensuring accountability in the area.

He said, “My first promise to the people is to eradicate corruption. I will put an end to extortion and eliminate drug trafficking from our area. Land grabbers will be held accountable, and I will ensure a proper system for buying and selling land.”

Hoque also spoke passionately about supporting expatriates, particularly in Keraniganj, which hosts a large number of migrant workers.

“I will create a welfare association for expatriates in the area. Their families will be properly cared for, and I will ensure they have access to the services they need,” he promised.

Addressing security issues, Hoque assured voters that if elected, he would work to transform the police into a people-friendly force.

“The number of cases usually being filed will reduce by 90 percent and cases filed wrongfully will reduce by 100 percent. I will motivate the police to serve the people with respect and professionalism,” he said.

Hoque also expressed his commitment to better fiscal management, particularly in ensuring transparency in government projects.

“The government’s funds must not be misused. I promise that 100% of the government’s budget will be used for its intended purpose, without corruption or irregularities,” he said.

Another important aspect of Haque's agenda is poverty alleviation. He said, “I will work to reduce poverty, ensuring that no one is left behind. I will use government resources along with Zakat funds to improve the lives of the poor and bring about positive change.”

On the topic of local madrassas, he pledged to modernize their education system, providing students with skills for employment and integration into mainstream society.

“I will focus on madrassas contribution to skilled manpower, helping students become more competitive in the job market,” he said.

Commenting on the electoral code of conduct, Hoque expressed concern over alleged violations of election codes by his opponents.

“We strictly adhere to the election code of conduct, but sadly, some of my opponents have been engaging in unethical practices, including tearing down our posters and using threats against my supporters,” he said.

Despite the challenges, Hoque remained confident in his party’s ability to succeed in the upcoming election.

“If the election process is fair and free from interference, we will win with a two-thirds majority. We are committed to serving the people and protecting the rights of minorities. We will create a better future for all,” he added.
