SANGSAD BHABAN, April 28, 2026 (BSS) - Whip of Jatiya Sangsad M. Ruhul Quddus Talukder Dulu today underscored the urgent need to implement an effective wage board for journalists, stressing that their welfare is crucial for sustaining democratic politics in Bangladesh.

Taking part in the discussion today on the thanks giving motion of President’s speech in the Jatiya Sangsad, he said, “If journalists survive, Bangladesh’s politics will survive. Without ensuring their security and welfare, democratic politics in the country will struggle to endure.”

Highlighting the role of the media, he noted that democracy cannot be strengthened without improving journalists’ living standards. He called for concrete steps to ensure their rights and professional security.

Referring to past concerns, the whip said that some media personnel had been involved in smear campaigns against political leaders, emphasizing the need for accountability and appropriate action in such cases.
He added, “Those journalists who allegedly played roles during the 1/11 political developments should also be brought under accountability.”

Dulu also recalled the victims of past political unrest, including incidents of enforced disappearances and killings. He said many people had lost their lives, while others remained missing or permanently crippled over the past decade and a half.
He paid tribute to those killed in political violence, including student leaders Wasim, Mugdha and Abu Sayeed, along with all martyrs.

The whip of Jatiya Sangsad further stressed the importance of cooperation between the government and opposition to tackle current global and domestic challenges. He expressed hope that reducing political confrontation would help build a more tolerant and democratic culture.

M Ruhul Quddus Talukder Dulu concluded that ensuring democracy, freedom of expression and journalists’ safety would further strengthen political stability in the country.
