SANGSAD BHABAN, April 29, 2026 (BSS) - Agriculture Minister Mohammad Amin Ur Rashid today told Jatiya Sangsad that the government has embarked on a comprehensive basic transformation of the agricultural sector aimed at ensuring fair prices for farmers, easing market access, and enabling their direct participation in export activities.

“Through an online platform, farmers’ produce will be delivered door-to-door and direct linkage to export operations by the farmers will be ensured through building a technology-driven and data-driven agriculture production and marketing system,” he said.

The Minister said these in response to a starred tabled question placed by ruling party lawmaker Md. Ashraf Uddin from Narsingdi-5.

The Minister said the initiative centres on integrating modern technology and data-driven systems across production, storage, and marketing. The session was presided over by Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad, Bir Bikram.

Amin Ur Rashid underscored that a major shift is underway to connect farmers directly with consumers through digital means.

“We are restructuring the entire agricultural marketing system using modern technology and data-driven management,” he said.

Highlighting farmer support measures, Mohammad Amin Ur Rashid said the government has already initiated the distribution of ‘Krishak Cards’ on a pre-pilot basis in 11 upazilas, including Tangail Sadar. “Through this card, farmers will receive 10 types of services, including fair price opportunities, improved market access, and essential support services,” he noted.

On export expansion, the minister emphasised greater farmer inclusion in global trade. “We are encouraging contract farming so that farmers can directly engage in the export process,” he said, adding, “There is also a plan to establish agriculture-based export zones in the northern region to boost overseas market access.”

He further elaborated on infrastructure development under the ‘Partner’ project, saying, “Modern one-stop hubs will be established, providing input supply, advisory services, collection points, trading facilities, and washing services—bringing a new dimension to agricultural marketing.”

Addressing digital connectivity, he said the government is developing an online platform titled ‘Smart Agriculture Market’. “This platform will enable direct interaction among farmers, wholesalers, retailers, entrepreneurs, and consumers, creating a seamless agricultural value chain,” he added.

Referring to long-term export planning, the minister said, “The Department of Agricultural Marketing has already formulated a roadmap for crop-based export expansion, which, once implemented, will significantly strengthen Bangladesh’s presence in international markets.”

He also expressed optimism that with successful implementation of these coordinated initiatives, the agricultural sector will become more modern, profitable, and sustainable.
