Man killed in Rajbari lightning strike

RAJBARI, April 29, 2026 (BSS) - A man was killed after being struck by lightning in Rajbari Sadar upazila early this morning.

The deceased, Suman Ahmed, 37, was the son of Siddique Mandal, a resident of Bagmara area of Marjatkol village of the upazila. 

Officer-in-Charge of Sadar Police Station Uttam Kumar Ghosh said the incident occurred around 7:00 am while Suman was heading to a nearby shop carrying his three-and-a-half-year-old daughter Safia. 

A sudden lightning strike hit them, causing Safia to fall from her father's arms while Suman collapsed on the ground.

Family members rushed to the scene and took him to Rajbari Sadar Hospital where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.

Safia sustained minor injuries, including slight bleeding from her nose and ears, but is currently reported to be out of danger.
