KISHOREGANJ, April 29, 2026 (BSS) - Continuous heavy rainfall has inundated around 3,000 hectares of Boro paddy fields in the district, with most of the affected areas located in haor regions.

According to Nikli Meteorological Observatory Senior Observer Akhtar Farooq, the district recorded 160 millimeters of rainfall in the 24 hours up to noon Wednesday. He added that the minimum temperature dropped to 19øC during the same period. Authorities also warned that rainfall may continue into tomorrow.

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department reported widespread heavy rainfall across several districts during the same period. Bhola received 151 millimeters, Feni 148 millimeters, Mymensingh 115 millimeters, Khepupara 114 millimeters, Cumilla and Sitakunda 103 millimeters each, and Netrokona 89 millimeters.

Agricultural officials said prolonged rainfall over several days has already submerged about 950 hectares of low-lying haor land, with the total affected area now rising to 3,000 hectares. Farmers are facing severe difficulties in harvesting and drying newly cut Boro paddy due to persistent rain.

Deputy Director of the district Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) Dr. Sadiqur Rahman said field-level assessments indicate the submerged area is increasing daily, raising concerns over further crop losses. Vegetable fields in different parts of the district are also at risk of damage due to waterlogging.
