DHAKA, April 28, 2026 (BSS) - A court here today allowed bail to former Managing Director of Biman Bangladesh Airlines, Dr Md Shafiqur Rahman, in a case filed over the brutal assault of his 11-year-old housemaid.

Dhaka 3rd Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Moin Uddin Chowdhury passed the order after holding a hearing on the matter.

Earlier, on February 10, a Dhaka court placed Shafiqur on a five-day remand, his wife Bithi on a seven-day remand, and housemaids Rupali Khatun and Sufia Begum on five- and six-day remands respectively.

On February 20, Sufia Begum gave confessional statement in the case.

The four were arrested from Shafiqur’s Uttara sector 9 residence on February 1 and were sent to jail the next day.

According to case documents, the child had been working at the household since June 2025. On January 31, 2026, the accused handed her over to her father, who noticed bruises and severe burn injuries on her body. She was immediately admitted to hospital.

The victim's father filed the case with Uttara West Police Station on February 1.
