DHAKA, April 28, 2026 (BSS) - The Bangladesh China Chamber of Commerce & Industry (BCCCI) has called for increased Chinese investment and technology transfer in Bangladesh's textile sector to enhance the country's capacity in high-value garment production.
The call was made during a high-level meeting held at the BCCCI office in the capital on Sunday with a 20-member delegation from the China National Textile and Apparel Council (CNTAC), the China Dyeing and Printing Association (CDPA), and leading Chinese companies involved in dyeing, printing and chemical manufacturing, said a press release.
BCCCI President Mohd. Khorshed Alam led the Bangladeshi side and welcomed the visiting delegation, describing the engagement as an important platform for dialogue and knowledge exchange in key industrial sectors.
He said more than 40 textile and dyeing industrial units in Bangladesh are currently facing financial and technical constraints. He added that upgrading existing facilities through foreign collaboration would be more practical and cost-effective than setting up new factories.
He also encouraged Chinese investors to explore joint ventures, partnerships and technology transfer initiatives to improve productivity and global competitiveness.
The head of the Chinese delegation, Li Lingshen, expressed appreciation for the hospitality extended by BCCCI and noted that China exports around US$9 billion worth of fabrics annually to Bangladesh, reflecting strong and growing bilateral trade relations.
He said both state-owned and private Chinese companies are increasingly exploring investment opportunities in Bangladesh and the wider Southeast Asian region, identifying Bangladesh as a promising destination due to its strong manufacturing base and skilled workforce.
He also expressed optimism that BCCCI would continue to play a key role in facilitating industrial cooperation between the two countries.
Both sides reiterated their commitment to expanding cooperation in the garments, textile, dyeing, and printing sectors, with particular focus on joint ventures, development of Export Processing Zones (EPZs), addressing energy challenges affecting industrial growth, and strengthening supply chain integration along with technology transfer.
The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to deepening economic engagement and promoting sustainable industrial development through enhanced bilateral cooperation.
BCCCI was represented by its Secretary General Jamilur Rahman; Advisors Harun Ar Rashid and Shahid Alam; Vice Presidents Khandaker Atiqur Rahman and Masud Ali Khan; Director (Public Relations) Md. Zinnatul Islam; Director Mohammad Amanur Rahman; Executive Director Md. Abu Taher; along with other chamber members and media representatives.
