Ex-DGFI official Manjil on fresh remand over banned BCL procession

DHAKA, April 26, 2026 (BSS) - A court here today placed former Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI) official Major (retd) Manjil Haider Chowdhury on a four-day fresh remand in a case lodged under The Anti-Terrorism Act over flash procession by banned Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) and Awami League in the capital in 2025.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mehedi Hasan passed the order as police produced Manjil before the court after end of his five-day remand in the case and pleaded to place him on another seven-day remand.


According to the case documents, leaders and activists of banned BCL and Awami League brought out a flash procession in front of Rupayan Tower in Bangla Motor area on September 12, 2025. They chanted different anti-government and anti-state slogans. Police later filed the case under The Anti-Terrorism Act.


Police on April 9, 2026, arrested Manjil Haider Chowdhury from a house in Mohakhali DOHS in the capital.
