DHAKA, April 25, 2026 (BSS) - BNP Secretary General and Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today urged everyone to remain vigilant, saying that a vested group is attempting to destabilize the country's political environment through misinformation and propaganda.

He said, "Efforts are being made to distance BNP from the people by spreading false narratives and fake information on social media, and that such activities are still ongoing."

Mirza Fakhrul made the remarks at a press conference at the party's central office in Naya Paltan this afternoon.

Earlier, he chaired a joint meeting held ahead of the upcoming May Day. The meeting discussed various preparations to ensure the successful observance of the day.

BNP Joint Secretary General and Political Adviser to the Prime Minister Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, State Minister for Youth and Sports Md Aminul Haque and leaders from BNP's associate and affiliated bodies, as well as leaders from the north and south city units, participated in the meeting.

Addressing the press conference, Fakhrul said, "Change has come through a student-public uprising following 18 years of anti-fascist struggle. Subsequently, under an interim government, BNP assumed state power through a neutral election, and a government was formed under the leadership of BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman."

"Domestic and international observers, along with the media, have recognized the election as free, fair, and credible. BNP secured victory in 213 seats, enabling it to form the government," Fakhrul added.

He said everyone must remain alert to prevent any conspiracy that could undermine the opportunity to institutionalize democracy in the country. Drawing lessons from past experiences, he urged people to remain vigilant.

Mirza Fakhrul said that BNP Chairman and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is expected to address a May Day rally as the chief guest to be held by Jatiotabadi Shramik Dal on May 1 at 2:30pm in front of the party's central office. The party has taken all-out preparations to make the rally successful.

He said the main objective of the joint meeting was the successful observance of the upcoming May Day.

The party General Secretary further said, "May Day is not just a day; it is a significant occasion for working people around the world. It is observed as a symbol of the struggle to secure workers' rights, earned through their labor and sacrifices.

The veteran BNP leader also mentioned that all district and upazila units across the country have been instructed to observe May Day in a befitting manner.

At the press conference, BNP Joint Secretary General and Political Adviser to the Prime Minister Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said, "Jatiotabadi Shramik Dal, BNP's labour wing, has taken initiatives to observe the day with due dignity as in previous years. Several preparatory meetings have already been held, and details of the programs have been shared through briefings. The joint meeting was convened to make the May Day programmes successful."
