SATKHIRA, April 29, 2026 (BSS) - Law enforcement officials in Satkhira have seized and destroyed a large consignment of mangoes allegedly ripened using harmful chemicals during transport to Chattogram.

Police said around 9,000 kilograms of unripe mangoes were confiscated early today from old Satkhira Alia Madrasa in the district town. Acting on a tip-off, a team from Satkhira Sadar Police Station conducted a raid around 2:00 am and intercepted a truck.

The vehicle was found carrying 351 crates of mangoes suspected to have been artificially ripened using chemicals.

The seized mangoes were taken to the Satkhira municipality dumping site in the Binerpota area, where they were crushed under the wheels of a vehicle and destroyed this afternoon.

Satkhira Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Masudur Rahman confirmed the seizure and destruction of the consignment.

Satkhira Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Arnab Dutta said the decision to destroy the mangoes was taken due to the use of hazardous ripening chemicals. He added that such drives against unsafe food practices will continue in the future.
