SANGSAD BHABAN, June 8, 2026 (BSS) - The Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment is implementing extensive skill development programmes aimed at transforming the country’s working-age youth into a skilled workforce and expanding employment opportunities both at home and abroad, said State Minister for Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Md. Nurul Hoque.
He said this in Parliament today while responding on behalf of the Minister for Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment to a written question from ruling party MP Anisur Rahman of Madaripur-3.
The State Minister said that the Bureau of Manpower, Employment and Training (BMET) is currently conducting training through 110 institutions nationwide, including 104 Technical Training Centres (TTCs) and 6 Institutes of Marine Technology (IMTs). These institutions are offering 55 job-oriented short- and long-term trades and courses.
He informed that more than 1.2 million trainees receive training annually under these programmes. The trained workforce is gaining employment opportunities in both domestic and international labour markets, significantly contributing to human resource development and increased overseas employment.
Nurul Hoque added that the government has taken initiatives to establish Technical Training Centres at the upazila level to bring skill development training closer to the grassroots.
Under this initiative, the project titled “Establishment of 50 Technical Training Centres in 50 Upazilas” has included Shibchar Upazila of Madaripur district.
He further stated that the government’s objective is to transform the country’s youth into internationally competitive skilled workers through modern and demand-driven training, enabling them to secure stronger positions in the global labour market.
The State Minister also said the government is continuously working to expand training infrastructure, introduce new trades, and improve training quality to ensure skill development and employment generation.
