Court orders seizure of tax files of ex-minister Obaidul Muktadir

DHAKA, Feb 17, 2026 (BSS) – A court here today ordered the seizure of tax files of former housing and public works minister RAM Obaidul Muktadir Chowdhury over graft charges.
 
 
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Sabbir Faiz passed the order, allowing a plea of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). 
 
According to the petition, the accused, RAM Obaidul Moktadir Chowdhury, committed punishable offences under the Anti-Corruption Act and the Money Laundering Prevention Act by engaging in criminal misconduct, abusing power, and concealing the sources of his income through transactions involving the transfer, conversion, and relocation of Taka 24.89 crore, which were inconsistent with his known lawful earnings.
 
 
The petition further stated that, for the sake of a fair investigation, it is essential to seize the accused’s income tax records from the beginning up to the present, along with all related documents and records
