Army rescues 2,000 flood victims in Khagrachhari

DHAKA, Aug 23, 2024 (BSS) - Members of the Bangladesh Army have rescued around 2,000 flood-affected people through day-long rescue operation in the district.

"Hilly district Khagrachhari has been severely affected by flood, leaving hundreds of thousands of people affected," said an Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) press release today.

The water levels in the Chengi, Maini, and Kasalong rivers crossed 2-6 feet above the danger level, inundating surrounding areas.

As part of the day-long rescue operations, the Army personnel have already relocated nearly 2,000 residents of Khagrachhari to safer shelters.

Apart from this, they are providing cooked meals to people staying at different shelter centres, the release added.

The Bangladesh Army is supplies different types of necessary items such as dry food, candles, matches and saline to remote areas.
