DHAKA, Sept 11, 2024 (BSS) - Police have detained ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina's energy adviser Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury, former additional attorney general Barrister Md Mehedi Hasan Chowdhury and Gazipur city Awami League advisory council member Riaz Mahmud conducting overnight drives in the capital and Jhenaidah district.

A Detective Branch (DB) team of police apprehended Tawfiq from the city's Gulhan area, said an official release of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).

He was accused in several cases over the widespread violence during the recent student-people uprising that led to dislodge Sheikh Hasina's 15 year's autocratic rule.

In another raid at Jhenaidah district, police rounded up Mehedi and Riaz as they were trying to flee the country illegally crossing the border, said a press release of the police headquarters.

Two separate cases were filed against Mehedi and Riaz with Adabor Police Station under DMP and Bason Police Station under Gazipur Metropolitan Police (GMP) respectively.
