SYLHET, Feb 26, 2025 (BSS) - Religious Affairs Adviser Dr. A.F.M. Khalid Hossain today urged the imams to play an important role in conservation of the country's biodiversity and afforestation side by side with responsible role in various social issues.

“If contemporary issues are presented in light of the Quran and Hadith, people will embrace it. It is necessary to highlight the issues in mosque sermons (Khutbah),” he told a motivational seminar at Divisional Commissioner's Office here.

The seminar was arranged under 'Improving the quality of life of the people of Haor area and motivating them through Imams for biodiversity conservation' project.

The religious affairs adviser requested the Imams to avoid baseless and unrealistic talks in the sermon. He also urged them to engage in income-generating activities in addition to fulfilling their duties.

Regarding the pre-sermon prepared by the Islamic Foundation, Dr. Khalid said this sermon has included contemporary issues such as curbing terrorism, corruption, drug abuse and prevention of violence against women, and responsibility towards parents.

Sylhet Range DIG Md. Mushfequr Rahman, Metropolitan Police Commissioner Md. Rezaul Karim and Police Superintendent Mohammad Mahbubur Rahman spoke as special guests at the seminar with Divisional Commissioner Khan Md. Reza-un-Nabi in the chair.

People from different walks of life, including government officials, imams, journalists, participated in the seminar, among others.
