Real fishermen do not catch jatka breaking law: Farida

DHAKA, April 13, 2025 (BSS) - Fisheries and Livestock Adviser Farida Akhtar today said actual fishermen do not catch 'jatka' fish breaking the law.

She said this while addressing a view-exchanging meeting held at a fish market in Jatrabari in the capital as the chief guest marking the Jatka Conservation Week-2025.

The adviser dubbed fisherman who catches jatka as evil businessman.

She said a healthy market will be created in a complex building in Jatrabari where everything will be kept separate.

The fisheries adviser said the insecurity of fish traders including shopkeepers in the market will be removed by talking to the home ministry.

She asked all not to increase the price of fish unnecessarily.

Director General of the Department of Fisheries Dr Md Abdur Rouf presided over the meeting while Deputy Director of Dhaka Division Md Monirul Islam gave the welcome speech on the occasion.
