DHAKA, May 16, 2025 (BSS) - The government has accepted the demands of the
protesting Jagannath University students, said University Grants Commission
Chairman Prof SMA Faiz.

"The government has taken a very positive decision regarding the demands of
Jagannath University students and this cooperation will continue," he told
the protest rally around 7:00pm at the Kakrail intersection in the capital.

Professor Faiz said, "A decision has been made to increase the university's
operational budget. Through the budget increase, a decision has been taken
regarding the first demand of the students."

"At the same time, a decision has been made to start the construction of
temporary dormitories very soon to resolve the accommodation crisis", he
said, adding, "The process of implementing the second campus on a priority
basis has already begun."

The move came hours after students of JnU began a mass hunger strike from
3:30pm to press home their demands.
