Govt spends Tk 285c so far for July victims, their families: CA

DHAKA, June 6, 2025 (BSS) – Chief Adviser Professor Mohammad Yunus today said the government has so far spent a total of Taka 285 crore on providing savings certificates to the families of July martyrs, treatment of the injured and issuing cheques to them.

He revealed the information while delivering his telecasted address before the nation on the occasion of the Holy Eid-ul-Azha.

The Chief Adviser said next July will be the one year of the mass uprising and the government has paid attention to those whose sacrifices made this uprising possible and their families at every moment.

“We have been implementing various programmes for them. So far, out of 834 martyrs’ families, 630 families have been given bank cheques of Taka 10 lakh each for savings certificates with total of Taka 63 crore,” he said.

Prof Yunus said the remaining ones will be given savings certificates subject to the settlement of the issues related to determining their inheritors.

In addition, he said, Taka 106 crore has been given to about 12,500 people injured in the mass uprising.

Of the injured in the mass uprising, 15,393 have so far received treatment in various government and private hospitals, he said. 

The Chief Adviser said around 40 people have been sent to Singapore, Thailand and Russia for better treatment through the health services department while 11 people through the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs. 

He said the government has already spent Taka 61 crore for their treatment and this expenditure is going on.

The process of sending 28 more July fighters to Singapore Thailand and Turkey for better treatment is underway, Prof Yunus said. 

So far, he said, 26 specialist doctors from the UK, the USA, France, Singapore, Thailand, China, Malaysia and Nepal have visited Bangladesh to provide treatment to the patients in various hospitals free of cost. 

The Chief Adviser said these doctors have only taken their travel expenses, so “we are grateful to them”.
