DHAKA, June 24, 2025 (BSS) - Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Adviser Prof Dr Asif Nazrul today said the Commonwealth Charter is not just a declaration rather a moral guideline that binds Bangladesh beyond its borders.

“Commonwealth values lie deep in our current reform efforts. In line with the Commonwealth Charter, the current government has moved forward on the path of bold reforms,” he told the closing ceremony of the Commonwealth Charter Workshop 2025 at a city hotel.

Asif Nazrul said the government has amended ‘The Code of Civil Procedure’ to make justice faster and more accessible.
“We are very soon taking forward the digitalization of the judicial system to ensure transparency and efficiency,” he said.

“The work is not over yet, but we have actually started the process and have been able to make significant contributions to digitalization in the last six months. In the next six months, we will deal with laws on gender-based violence, justice and digital registration,” he said.

The law adviser said they will reform the appointment of judges in the higher judiciary and ensure transparency and competence in appointments through the Judicial Service Commission.

On the Cyber ??Security Ordinance, Asif Nazrul said the government also amended the Cyber ??Security Ordinance to protect freedom of expression.

The Cyber Security Act was one of the most controversial and criticized laws in Bangladesh, he mentioned.
