DHAKA, Dec 30, 2025 (BSS) - BNP Standing Committee meeting is currently in progress, presided over by the party's Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman.

The meeting commenced today at 12:38 pm at the Chairperson's political office in Gulshan. 

BNP Media Cell member Shairul Kabir Khan confirmed that the Standing Committee is holding this session "on an emergency basis" following the passing of the party's Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia. 

The meeting is also attended by senior leaders including Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Mirza Abbas, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan and Nazrul Islam Khan.

Begum Khaleda Zia, widely known as the "uncompromising leader" in Bangladeshi politics, passed away today at 6:00 am while undergoing treatment at Evercare Hospital in the capital. The passing of the country's first female Prime Minister and Chairperson of the BNP, following a prolonged illness, has cast a deep shadow of grief across the nation's political landscape.
