DHAKA, Jan 5, 2026 (BSS) - Chief Election Commissioner A M M Nasir Uddin today said the Election Commission (EC) remains confident and committed to holding a free, fair and neutral election.

He made the remarks this morning after visiting the appeal centre set up at the Election Commission building in Agargaon to receive appeals filed with the Commission against the decisions of Returning Officers on acceptance and rejection of nomination papers.

Earlier, the CEC visited the eleven booths of the temporary centre established to conduct the appeal process and inquired about the overall situation on the spot.

Expressing satisfaction with overall preparations by the EC for the appeal process, he told journalists that "As you can see, we are trying to give our best."

Responding to a question from journalists, the CEC expressed optimism that any adverse situation, if there is any, would be resolved over time.

He further said, "We are confident about holding a free, fair and neutral election. Insha Allah, with the combined efforts and cooperation of all, the EC believes this will be possible."

The process of filing appeals with the EC against the decisions of Returning Officers on acceptance and rejection of nomination papers for the 13th Jatiya Sangsad election and referendum 2026 began today from 10:00 am.

Candidates or concerned parties can file appeals at the designated ten booths set up at the Election Commission, following the necessary instructions.

Besides, those seeking any information related to appeals or having any queries in this regard have been asked to contact the central booth.

The Election Commission said appeals can be filed from today until January 9 from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm each day.

Earlier, the EC yesterday said that a total of 1,842 nomination papers have been found valid and 723 nomination papers have been rejected for the upcoming election across 300 parliamentary constituencies.
