DHAKA, Jan 18, 2026 (BSS) - Social researcher Dr Faham Abdus Salam today said building a beautiful future for Bangladesh requires conscious and responsible participation of all citizens.

"Collective awareness and proper understanding of democratic roles are essential for national progress," he said.

Faham made the remarks while addressing a joint lecture titled "The Future of Bangladesh", organised by the Bangladesh Research Institute for Development at the Joynal Abedin Auditorium of the ESDO head office in Gobinda Nagar of the municipal city in Thakurgaon.

Dr Faham said the law and order situation has not been fully restored after August 5 and criticised the tendency to nominate unsuitable candidates for electoral success.

He stressed that local development should be handled by local government bodies.

Speaking at the event, social organiser and 2023 Australian of the Year Dr Shamaruh Mirza highlighted concerns over air pollution and inadequate healthcare facilities, saying development must focus on delivering basic services to citizens.

Rahat Ara Begum, wife of BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, ESDO Executive Director Dr. Muhammad Shahid Uz Zaman and other prominent figures of the district were also present.
