People will vote in favor of 'Yes' vote, reforms: Akhter Hossen

RANGPUR, Jan 18, 2026 (BSS)- National Citizens Party (NCP) member-secretary Akhter Hossen has said that the people of the country will vote in favor of a 'Yes' vote and reforms for a new Bangladesh.
 
"The Jatiya Chhatra Shakti will campaign for a 'Yes' vote among people of all classes and professions. No matter how much the campaigning for 'No' vote is done, at the end of the day, the people will vote in favor of a 'Yes' vote," he said. 
 
He said this to journalists after visiting the grave of martyr Abu Sayeed in Babanpur village under Pirganj upazila here on Sunday afternoon to launch the nationwide 'Yes' vote campaign of Jatiya Chhatra Shakti in the referendum. 
 
Akhter Hossen said that through a 'Yes' vote, state institutions will provide services to citizens in a good way, the state will be run through a participatory system of citizens, and there will be no more unitary governance. 
 
Those who have dual citizenship and are evading state taxes in the name of debt defaulters and businesses should not participate in the elections and the Election Commission should take action against them.
 
"If dual citizenship holders and loan defaulters are given the opportunity to participate in the elections, then the 10-party alliance including the NCP will protest across the country," he said.
 
On the 'Yes' vote campaign in the referendum, General Secretary of Jatiya Chhatra Shakti Abu Baker Majumdar said that many are campaigning for 'No' vote in the referendum, 
 
"We firmly believe that all the participating forces in the July uprising will be in favor of 'Yes' vote in the referendum for reforms and building a new Bangladesh to materialise the dreams of the July martyrs," he said. 
 
Jatiya Chhatra Shakti President Zahid Hasan said that the people of Bangladesh do not want the same person to be the prime minister for more than 10 years and the caretaker government be abolished. 
 
"The people of Bangladesh want to vote for 'Yes' in the referendum because the people do not want the old Awami system anymore," he said. 
 
The Jatiya Chhatra Shakti, student wing of NCP started the 'Yes' vote campaign in the referendum by visiting the grave of the first martyr of the July uprising, Abu Sayeed, in Babanpur, Pirganj, Rangpur. 
 
Earlier, Akhter Hossen and Jatiya Chhatra Shakti President Zahid Hasan and General Secretary Abu Baker Majumdar with other leaders exchanged greetings with the family members of martyr Abu Sayeed after visiting this grave in village Babanpur.
