Passenger bus sinks into Padma River while boarding ferry at Daulatdia Ghat

DHAKA, Mar 25, 2026 (BSS)- A passenger bus lost control and plunged into the Padma River while boarding a ferry at Daulatdia Ghat in Goalanda upazila of Rajbari today.

According to the Fire Service, the Dhaka-bound passenger bus of Souhardya Paribahan from Rajbari sank about 30 feet deep into the river while attempting to board the ferry at Daulatdia Ghat.

The accident occurred around 5:15 pm as the bus was getting onto the ferry.

Talha Bin Jasim, an official of the Fire Service media wing, confirmed the matter to BSS today.

One unit from Goalanda Fire Station and one diving unit from Aricha Fire Station were engaged for rescue operations, he said two more diving units from Dhaka and Faridpur are heading to the scene.

According to locals and survivors, seven passengers managed to get out of the bus at the initial stage. 

The Fire Service diving team has located the bus underwater. Efforts are underway to lift the bus with assistance from BIWTA’s rescue vessel “Hamza, said the Fire Service official.

Additional Superintendent of Police Tapas Kumar Pal said that the bodies of two individuals have so far been recovered.
