2 killed in separate incidents in Khulna

KHULNA, March 24, 2026 (BSS) – A man was allegedly killed by his second wife in Koyra Upazila in the district, while police recovered the body of a minor girl hours after she went missing in the city’s Labanchara area, police said today.

In Koyra, the incident occurred around 8:00 pm on Monday at Jor Shing village under South Bedkashi union of the Koyra upazila.

The deceased was identified as Fazlu Gazi, 66, son of late Fakir Gazi.

According to police and locals, an altercation broke out between Fazlu and his second wife Khukumoni in the evening. At one stage, she allegedly strangled him and pressed his testicles, causing his death, before fleeing the scene.

Locals later brought a village doctor who declared him dead. Khukumoni reportedly took shelter in a nearby house but was detained by locals and handed over to police.

Officer-in-Charge (Investigation) of Koyra Police Station Md. Shah Alam said police visited the scene and the accused is now in custody. Legal steps are underway.
In another incident, police recovered the body of four-and-a-half-year-old Jannatul Maowa around 2:00 am on Tuesday from a vacant area near Harintana Gate in Khulna city.

Maowa, daughter of Shahajalal, was a resident of Raypara culvert area under Labanchara Police Station.

Md Tuhinuzzaman, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Labanchara Police Station, said the child was lured away by a neighbor who was called grandfather by the victim, with an offer of ice cream on Monday afternoon. 

Later, her (victim) family filed a GD when she went missing.

The body was found with a rope beside the Harintana Gate around 2.00am today, and police suspect strangulation, OC said, adding that drive is underway to arrest the suspect, OC added.#
