
CUMILLA, March 23, 2026 (BSS) - A case has been filed against gatemen Helal Uddin and wayman Mehedi Hasan over allegations of negligence following a train-bus collision in the Paduar Bazar area of Cumilla that killed 12 people.
Injured bus passenger Shefali Akter lodged the case with Laksam Railway Police Station in this connection.
She is the aunt of accident victim Sohel Rana, who died in the accident. She lives in Laksam, Cumilla.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Laksam Railway Police Station, Jasim Uddin Khondaker, confirmed the matter to BSS this afternoon.
According to the case statement, Sohel Rana, an expatriate worker in Malaysia, had returned home to celebrate Eid at his residence in Chuadanga. From there, on Eid day, he was travelling to his aunt's house in Laksam, Cumilla, when he was killed in the accident at the Padua Bazar level crossing.
His wife and daughter, who were also injured in the same incident, are currently undergoing treatment at a hospital in Dhaka.
Shefali Akter was travelling with them from Chuadanga to Laksam in Cumilla by a Mamun Special bus. On the way, when the bus reached the Paduar Bazar railway crossing in Cumilla, it collided with a train.
She herself was also injured in the incident. In addition, 12 passengers died on the spot and several others were injured.
The complainant alleged that the tragedy occurred due to negligence by the gateman on duty at the railway crossing. She demanded legal action against the accused gateman and others concerned.
In the early hours of Sunday, a passenger bus (Dhaka Metro-Ba-14-7783) named Mamun Special, traveling from Chuadanga to Lakshmipur, collided with the Chattogram Mail train bound for Dhaka at the Paduar Bazar level crossing on the Dhaka-Chattogram railway line. Twelve people were killed on the spot and several others were injured.
Following the incident, the railway authorities temporarily suspended the two gatemen on duty over initial allegations of negligence. Two separate investigation committees have also been formed and instructed to submit reports within three working days.
