2 probe committees formed in Cumilla bus-train collision

CUMILLA, March 22, 2026 (BSS) - Bangladesh Railway Authority has formed two separate investigation committees to investigate into the tragic train-bus crash in Cumilla that left 12 people killed.
 
The committees have been asked to submit their reports within the next three working days, Mostafizur Rahman Bhuiyan, senior official of Railway Chattogram Division office said.
 
He said one divisional and another zonal level investigation committee have been formed. 
 
The six-member investigation committee at the divisional level is headed by Chattogram Division Transport Officer Anisur Rahman. On the other hand, the six-member committee at the zonal level is headed by Chief Operating Superintendent (East) Mohammad Shafiqur Rahman.
 
Other members of the divisional investigation committee include Divisional Engineer-1 Abu Rafi Mohammad Imtiaz Hossain, Divisional Mechanical Engineer (Loco) Md. Rezwan-ul-Islam, Divisional Signal and Telecommunication Engineer Md. Ashiqur Rahman, Divisional Medical Officer Dr. Tahamina Yasmin and Railway Protection Force (RNB) Commandant Md. Shahid Ullah. 
 
On the other hand, the members of the zonal investigation committee are- Chief Engineer (East) Md. Tanvirul Islam, Chief Mechanical Engineer (East) Sadequr Rahman, Chief Signal and Telecom Engineer (East) Tarek Mohammad Shams Tushar, Chief Medical Officer (East) Dr. Ibne Safi Abdul Ahad and Chief Commandant, RNB (East) Md. Zahirul Islam.
 
Divisional Manager Mostafizur Rahman Bhuiyan said that the two investigation committees have been asked to find out the real cause of the accident and submit a report as soon as possible. Further action will be taken after receiving the report, he added. 
 
A total 12 persons were killed and 10 others injured in a tragic road accident under a flyover of Bishwaroad in Padua Bazar of Jangalia area of Cumilla Sadar Dakkhin upazila of the district last midnight.
 
The accident occurred when the Dhaka-bound ‘Chattogram Mail Train’ hit a passenger bus while the driver of the bus tried to cross a rail line in the area, leaving at least three people killed on the spot and injured others. Nine others bus passengers succumbed to their injuries at the hospital, hospital sources said.
