Eid-ul-Fitr celebrated in Ctg amidst festivity

CHATTOGRAM; Mar 21, 2026 (BSS)- Holy Eid-ul-Fitr, the largest religious festival of Muslims, is being celebrated today in the port city and other districts with great religious fervour and joy.

After Eid prayers in mosques and makeshift outdoor venues, Muslims in the port city and nearby areas are celebrating Eid-ul-Fitr by exchanging greetings of 'Eid Mubarak'.

After returning from prayers, people are now visiting friends, relatives, neighbours, and 'Murabbis' elder members of the families. 

Such gesture will continue for the next couple of days as the entire 6-day period is a public holiday. The six-day celebrations mark the end of the fasting month of Ramadan.

Earlier, people exchanged gifts, and young women had their palms decorated with beautiful henna designs.

A total of 321 Eid congregations, including three major ones at M A Aziz Stadium and Jamiatul Falah Mosque were held in the port city under the auspices of Chattogram Central Eid Jamaat Committee (CCEJC) and Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) respectively.

A large number of devotees gathered to pray for divine blessings for the peace, prosperity, and stability of the country and the Muslim Ummah.

According to Chattogram metropolitan and district police sources, Eid-ul-Fitr Jamaats in the city and district were held peacefully, despite heavy rain, and the festival is being celebrated with joy and festivity.

The authorities took adequate security measures by deploying RAB, Police, and Ansars at various strategic points in the city to maintain law and order before and after Eid.

Muslims of all ages and backgrounds, dressed in their new attires, gathered at mosques and open spaces in the morning to offer their Eid prayers.

After offering prayers, people exchanged greetings and embraced each other with the spirit of brotherhood, love, and equality.

Three major Eid congregations took place in Chattogram. One was held at M.A. Aziz Stadium at 8:30 a.m. organized by CCEJC, and two others were held at Jamiatul Falah Mosque at 8:30 a.m. and 9 a.m. under the auspices of CCC.

Other significant Eid congregations were held at various locations in the city between 8 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. These included Andarkilla Shahi Jame Mosque, Laldhighi Maidan, Parade Maidan, Masjeed-e-Baitus Sharf at Kadamtali, Pologround Railway Public High School Maidan, Shah Amanat Shah (Rh) Dargah Maidan, Metropolitan Police Line Maidan, Agrabad Jamboree Field, and Baizeed Bostami (Rh) Dargah Mosque.

Chattogram City Corporation Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain, former minister Mir Mohammad Nasir Uddin, Mohammad Abu Sufian, MP, Ershad Ullah, MP, Sayed Al Noman, MP, former mayor Mahmudul Islam Chowdhury, Solaiman Alam Seth, and various political and social figures, as well as people from all walks of life, participated in the Eid prayers.

Another main Eid Jamaat was held at 8:30 a.m. at the MA Aziz Stadium Gymnasium ground under the initiative of the Central Eid Jamaat Committee. It was led by Maulana Dr. Syed Muhammad Abu Noman, former principal of Baitush Sharaf Adarsh Kamil Madrasa. Eid Jamaat was held at about 90 places in the city under the initiative of the Eid Jamaat Committee.

Eid Jamaat was organized at various mosques and locations in the city under the supervision of Chattogram City Corporation. Devotees offered Eid prayers at places like Laldighi Shahi Jame Masjid, Hazrat Sheikh Farid (R.) Chashma Eidgah Mosque, and Chawkbazar. 

To ensure security, the Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) set up a special security cordon around the Jamiatul Falah Mosque area and increased patrols throughout the city. 

Clerics in their sermon emphasized that true worship involves humility of the heart, not just physical prostration. They encouraged people to avoid arrogance and jealousy and to stand before the Creator with sincerity. 

After the prayer, devotees reflected on the unity and equality of Eid, where everyone stands together regardless of social status. This message inspires people to uphold truth, justice, and humanity in all aspects of life.

Authorities have served improved diets in hospitals, jails, orphanages, and youth and juvenile centers managed by the Social Welfare departments. According to available reports from fourteen upazilas of the district rural communities are celebrating Eid with great excitement.

According to the officials from the district administration, numerous Eid congregations took place peacefully at mosques and open spaces in every neighborhood in rural areas with significant participation from devout Muslims.
