Ex-DNCC ward councillor Hasu sent to jail

DHAKA, Mar 20, 2026 (BSS)- A court here today sent former councillor of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Ward-30 Abul Kashem alias Hasu to jail in a case filed over an alleged attempt to murder one Mahfuzul Haque in the capital’s Adabor area during the July Mass Uprising.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Nazmin Akter passed the order after police produced the accused before the court and pleaded to keep him behind bars until completion of the investigation.
 
Police arrested Hasu from the Adabor area on March 19.
 
According to the case documents, a procession of the anti-discrimination student movement was brought out in the Adabor area on August 4, 2024. At one stage, leaders and activists of the local units of Awami League and Jubo League allegedly opened fire on the procession, leaving Mahfuzul injured.
 
He later filed the case in this connection.
