DHAKA, Mar 24, 2026 (BSS)- Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed today said the government will accept the ordinance providing indemnity to those involved in the July Mass Uprising.
He made the remarks while speaking to journalists before attending a meeting of a parliamentary special committee at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban this morning.
Salahuddin said the parliamentary special committee would discuss the ordinances, including those related to the caretaker government.
He said that ordinances cancelling the naming of various institutions after leaders of the previous fascist government would be retained.
The minister added that other ordinances would be reviewed thoroughly, and decisions would be taken on whether to accept them, accept them with amendments, or defer them for further revision.
Under parliamentary rules, these must be decided within 30 days, he said.
The current Jatiya Sangsad (JS) session began on March 12, while the next sitting is scheduled for March 29, leaving limited time for deliberation, he noted.
A meeting of the special committee was held at 11:00 am at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban today, where 133 ordinances are being reviewed.
The committee has been tasked with scrutinizing the ordinances and submitting its report to parliament by April 2.
Earlier, Law Minister Asaduzzaman placed the 133 ordinances before the first session of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad on March 12, after which they were referred to the special committee.
The committee is headed by Zainul Abedin and includes members Mirza Abbas Uddin Ahmed, Salahuddin Ahmed, Md. Nurul Islam, Asaduzzaman, Muhammad Osman Faruk, A M Mahbub Uddin, Abdul Bari, Muhammad Naushad Jamir, Farzana Sharmin and Jamaat-e-Islami leader Mujibur Rahman, Rafiqul Islam Khan and G M M Nazrul Islam.
Mirza Abbas Uddin Ahmed did not attend the meeting as he is undergoing treatment in Singapore.
